The network is vibrant and dynamic due to its diverse nature: the members represent different university types – two universities, two universities of applied sciences and arts, and one university of music – and collaborate closely with the many companies in the region. Major areas of collaboration are research, transfer, internationalization, and digitalization.

Bielefeld University is a young research university with 24,000 students and more than 2,700 employees. Paderborn University has a strong foundation in computer science and in the application of information technology across all disciplines. This makes Paderborn University an important contributor to the information society but, simultaneously, these developments are also critically reflected. The “University for the Information Society” is located in an attractive, economically strong, and growing region with strong networks on a local, national, and international level. With 20,000 students and more than 2,400 employees, Paderborn University is a very lively educational institution and its campus provides a friendly and green environment with excellent services for student life and research. Many attractive study programs, including Master programs taught entirely in English, are offered in Paderborn University’s five faculties.

Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI) works closely with industrial communities and businesses in the region, with regards both to teaching and applied research. HSBI has over 150 partnerships worldwide and is constantly expanding its international collaborations. Its 11,000 students are enrolled in over 60 degree courses across three campuses in Bielefeld, Gütersloh and Minden. With a choice of different study models, many degree courses are offered in cooperation with local companies. There are six faculties: Design, Minden Campus (Architecture, Engineering, Informatics), Engineering and Mathematics, Social Sciences, Business, and Health.
Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences and Arts’s goal is to tackle complex problems and global challenges and work to ensure that knowledge and innovations benefit society. The TH OWL provides education and research in engineering, economics and management, life science technologies, design and construction. More than 6,500 students, 175 professors and 520 employees are based at our campuses in Lemgo, Detmold, and Höxter. Each campus is characterized by its courses of study. Lemgo is home to the classic engineering disciplines, supplemented by one-of-a-kind courses such as Media Production, Wood Technology and Food Technology. Detmold focuses on disciplines involving construction and design. Höxter has made a name for itself as a campus dedicated to ecological aspects in engineering. Practice orientation is the hallmark of studying at universities of applied sciences. At the TH OWL, scientific knowledge and methods are conveyed and applied in the numerous well equipped labs and institutes.

“Rooted in tradition, committed to the future!” Detmold University of Music is a superbly equipped music college which, in line with these principles, offers the full range of subjects expected from a classically-oriented musical education. Around 750 students are currently being trained by 320 tutors for a future career in an orchestra, on the concert platform, the opera stage or the conductor’s rostrum. Music pedagogy and church music study courses are just as much part of the profile as are music education and the world-class Tonmeister courses offered by the Erich Thienhaus Institute. And it enjoys high prestige internationally: students from over 50 countries have now carried the good reputation of the university out into the world.
